Homemade Fabric Softener {DIY}

Hopefully you are already using homemade laundry detergent and want to switch your fabric softener as well. Fabric softener can be quite expensive and I’m about to share two inexpensive alternatives to your average fabric softener.

Method 1:

Homemade fabric softener ingredients: baking soda, hot water, and white vinegar.

fabric softener ingredients

Combine 1 cup of baking soda with 2 cups of hot water. Stir until mostly dissolved (will not dissolve completely).

Slowly add 2 cups of white vinegar. It does cause a chemical reaction, so pour very slow. Stir until well mixed and not fizzing.

You can also add your favorite essential oil(s) to make your fabric softener smell wonderful.

Pour into a mason jar or other container (water jug).

Use 1/4 – 1/2 cup of your homemade fabric softener in each load of wash. You may need to shake it up before you use it, because the baking soda tends to settle at the bottom.

I haven’t personally used this method, but I did often use a squirt of conditioner as fabric softener. I imagine this combination works even better!
