I ran across a natural detox bath recipe from Jolly Mom and decided to try it. I always do my research when trying something I don’t have much knowledge about. So I found variations of this recipe multiple times with a lot of great responses to trying it. A lot of people said it made them sweat out toxins. I don’t eat perfect and I’m aware there are many unwanted toxins in my body, so I figured I would try it out for myself.
I adjusted the recipe from multiple recipes, because they all varied a little and I wanted to adjust the benefits to fit my body’s needs.
Baking Soda : Detoxifies your body from alcohol, caffeine, and other medications.
Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate) : Flushes toxins, exfoliates dead skin cells, helps relieve aches and pain.
Ginger : Flushes out toxins by inducing sweating. (This can give you flu-like symptoms while toxins are being released.)
When I took this detox bath last night, I didn’t sweat like I was anticipating. I believe that’s probably because I only had 2 tablespoons of ginger. If you are worried about sweating or getting dehydrated, you should try a lower amount of ginger the first time. Next time, I will try 4 tablespoons of ginger though. I also noticed that my bath was not hot enough at first [Luckily, I had a helper bringing my pots of boiling water for 30 minutes! :)], but when the bath water was hot, my skin began feeling tight like it was being squeezed.
After the bath, the only thing I wanted was water, and a lot of it. Nothing else sounded good. Also, my skin felt extremely soft!!! Which is amazing because I have super dry skin. I also felt a little nauseous after the bath, which lasted about 30 minutes. The next morning I was a little tired. The day after that, I had stomach flu-like symptoms. This is due to your body flushing out toxins any way it can. I decided to adjust the recipe to hopefully make this effect a little less dramatic. I plan on trying it again about a week from now.
